Well, that didn’t pan out

So we had the day all planned out. First, we’d go see the “new generation“ performance of War of the Worlds at Showcase, then have dinner in town, followed by the Meat Loaf concert. It was going to be epic.

Except we both found the War of the Worlds musical lacking (not in actual music, mind), but ho hum, at least we got the £5 back we had over-paid because we didn’t know about the Insider discount until a couple of days after booking. And got tickets for Iron Man 3 while we were at it, yay!

Went home quick to get ear plugs because I remembered I bought some ages ago for concert purposes (so I have sensitive ears, ‘k?), and then headed into town. Found perfect parking, just opposite the ice arena. Score!

We thought we’d go to the buffet restaurant in Hockley, as it’s near the ice arena, but they were closed – having relocated to the Cornerhouse much further away. Ended up walking all the way over there, but went to another restaurant in the same building, where food was cheaper. But that was a bit of a let-down as well, to be honest. Desserts were particularly uninspiring, even for a buffet restaurant.

But hey, at least we still had the concert to look forward to.

Got to the venue about 18:30, half an hour before doors were due to open, only to be told the gig had been cancelled, “due to medical reasons afflicting several members of the band”. The arena had only just received the no-go confirmation. (Even BBC News wrote about it!) Fortunately, the concert has been rescheduled rather than completely not happening ever, so the tickets are valid for the new date (Monday 20 May), or for those who can’t make it, they can get their tickets refunded. (Details are on the venue’s website here!)

We’re just really disappointed. It was supposed to be this epically awesome Sunday and instead it was one disappointment after another. 🙁 Went home and watched telly instead.

Hope the guys in the band feel better soon, and that we can come back in May (others who travelled from further away aren’t as lucky), even if we might not get as good a parking spot next time …
